Renzo Piano is great but the roofless theatre is unacceptable.

The same space can be used in a better way by Trevisan's project that costs less.

Trevisan's project is not a rehash of the 1866 Barry design but will provide:

a `memory` lane (a memory of the past, the war etc) and an all purpose hall.

The Valletta Opera House site could look like this.

A solution provided by Arch Giovanni Trevisan

RICOSTUIRE L'ANTICO IN LEGGEREZZA.

A Flexible-Infrastructure, partially dressed in stone/ marble.

This building could entertain hi-tech shows, musicals, conferences, Opera etc.

"This could make this one of
the most spectacular and successful public centres in Europe,
rivaling New York’s Lincoln Centre and London’s South Bank,
with the added benefit of being in the very heart of Valetta
"
.Sir Cameron Mackintosh

'Sir Cameron Mackintosh is the most successful, influential and powerful producer of our time'
- The New York Times

Sir Cameron engaged RHWL Architects (his theatre specialist) to contribute to this idea.

The plans provided by RHWL Architects demonstarte how the site could:

  • seat 1600 whilst
  • enjoying the required full size stage that would welcome opera and all shows.
  • be built respecting the present ruins.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh is aware of Malta's present facilities and believes that
this Valletta project will seriously contribute towards attracting cultural tourism.

Trevisan assures us that the total cost of project will not exceed 15million Euros.

15million Euros is approx Lm6.5million.

This project is good.
